Goldfishes are always the most common and most loved fishes of the aquarist! It’s popularity dates more than 100 years. They are not just beautiful but they are fun to watch and they become social with their keepers. These beautiful fishes can live up to 32 years and they do not need any special attention. Goldfishes are the native of Siberia and they were the first aquatic animals to be kept as pets. Most of the fancy and attractive goldfishes available in the market today are created by the Asian breeders. Today, there are more than 125 types of goldfish!
The common goldfish, the comet, fantail, shubunkin goldfishes are easy to care and they are suitable for beginners. Blackmoor and Ryukin goldfish are a hardier type and it’s for the aquarists who have gained experience and more confidence in keeping hardier fish. Bubble-eye goldfish, Oranda goldfish, Lionhead, Celestial goldfish are the other delicate fishes which need minimal attention.

Comet Goldfish
They have a slim body and stiff fins. The fins are longer than the common goldfish. They get along easily with the common goldfish and they are mostly kept together at pet stores. They are sold as feeder fish. They can be kept in outdoor ponds without a problem and they are available in different colors.

Shubunkin Goldfish
These fishes are known for their beautiful calico pattern on their skin. The patterns are in different colors like yellow, red, brown, black, white, grey, blue and purple. This slim-bodied goldfish is suitable for outdoor ponds. They are competitive eaters and fast swimmers.

Fantail Goldfish
They are the hardiest fancy variety that can survive in outdoor ponds along with slim-bodied goldfishes. However, you need to closely watch them know if they get their share of food! They are easily identified with their split caudal fins and are mostly available in orange.

Telescope Goldfish
They have protruding eyes that’s similar to the lenses of the telescope. Their vision is very limited and they are not the hardy kind of fish. They are available in different colors and due to their limited vision, they cannot compete with other fancy variety of goldfishes especially for food.

Black Moor Goldfish
They are the prettiest and have a high tolerance for cold water temperatures. They are very hardy and they have telescopic eyes but they don’t protrude as telescope goldfish. Blackmoor goldfish are fine pets for beginners and they survive in outdoors.

Lionhead Goldfish
They lack dorsal fin so they are not best swimmers. They move very slowly and should be kept only with the common goldfish which is also a slow swimmer. They have a fleshy hood on their face and they are very sensitive and not suitable for outdoor ponds.
Apart from these, there are other fishes like Bubble eye goldfish, Celestial Goldfish, Ryukin goldfish, Ryukin goldfish and more.
